Equal Opportunities Policy

Avalon Surveyors Ltd is committed to treating everyone fairly and with respect, and to providing equality of opportunity in the way we employ people and in the way we deal with clients, suppliers and the public.

Scope

This policy applies to everyone who works for or on behalf of the practice, and to job applicants. It covers recruitment, terms and conditions, pay, training and development, promotion and the ending of employment. It also covers how we treat clients, occupiers, neighbours, contractors, suppliers and members of the public.

Our commitments

  • We do not discriminate, directly or indirectly, on the grounds of any characteristic protected by the Equality Act 2010: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation.
  • We do not tolerate harassment, bullying or victimisation.
  • We recruit, select and develop people on merit, against the genuine requirements of the role.
  • We make reasonable adjustments for disabled employees and job applicants, and for clients and others we deal with.
  • We expect the people and organisations we work alongside to share these standards.

How we put this into practice

We base decisions about recruitment, development and reward on objective criteria. On site and in meetings we treat everyone courteously and fairly, and we take account of any access or communication needs when arranging inspections and appointments. This policy also reflects Rule 4 of the RICS Rules of Conduct, which requires members and firms to treat others with respect and encourage diversity and inclusion (see Professional Conduct and the RICS Rules of Conduct).

Raising a concern

Anyone who works for us and believes they have been treated unfairly can raise the matter with the Director, in confidence. Concerns raised in good faith will be looked into, and no one will be disadvantaged for raising them. Clients and others outside the practice can use our Complaints Handling Procedure.

Responsibilities

The Director is responsible for this policy. Everyone who works for or on behalf of the practice is responsible for their own conduct and for treating others in line with it.

Monitoring and review

We review this policy every year, and sooner if the law or our circumstances change.
