Environmental Policy

Avalon Surveyors Ltd recognises that our own operations, and more significantly the advice we give about buildings, affect the environment. This policy sets out how we manage both.

Scope

The policy applies to the practice’s office and travel, and to the professional advice we give on every instruction. It applies to everyone who works for or on behalf of the practice.

Our commitments

  • Comply with the environmental law that applies to our business.
  • Reduce the environmental impact of our own operations.
  • Encourage sustainable solutions in our advice, balancing economic, social and environmental considerations, as the RICS Rules of Conduct expect.
  • Work with suppliers and contractors who take their own environmental responsibilities seriously.

How we put this into practice

In our own operations

  • We plan site visits to combine journeys where we can, and use video meetings where they serve the client equally well.
  • We work digitally where practical, and keep printing to a minimum.
  • We use energy, equipment and consumables carefully, and recycle where facilities allow.
  • We dispose of waste, including electrical equipment, responsibly and lawfully.

In our professional advice

  • Where it suits the building and the client’s objectives, we consider repair and maintenance before replacement.
  • We draw clients’ attention to energy efficiency, durability and the choice of materials where these are relevant to an instruction.
  • We encourage planned maintenance, which helps buildings last longer and avoids unnecessary replacement.

Responsibilities

The Director is responsible for this policy. Everyone who works for or on behalf of the practice is expected to follow it in their day to day work.

Monitoring and review

We review this policy every year and look for practical improvements as the business develops.
